Services: Rats

Rats are a very common pest in both urban and rural areas, posing a significant health risk to humans and pets.

Rats as with all rodents carry common diseases including Salmonella, Weil’s disease, E.coli, Cryptosporidiosis and Tuberculosis.

They also carry fleas, mites and ticks, which can cause allergic reactions.

Rats are nocturnal, usually hiding from humans, and have to constantly gnaw to keep the length of their teeth manageable.

They can cause lots of damage to property and foodstuffs.

Rats can climb, live largely outside in burrows but will find their way indoors when access is allowed.

They live in colonies.

Signs of a rat problem:

  • Numerous droppings (3-5 mm in length, dark, tapered, cylindrical shaped)
  • Pungent smell (urine) in enclosed spaces, such as sheds and garages
  • Scratching noises
  • Holes in walls (interior and exterior), floors, lofts, decking etc.
  • Damage to food packaging
  • Rats nests in warm, hidden places, made from shredded material such as newspaper, plastic, fabrics etc. The nests often contain young rats. Rat nests may also be found under decking and in the garden. Rats will dig burrows, especially in compost heaps or under sheds and outhouses.

Treatment

  • Bug Busters can bait all affected areas to help reduce / eliminate mice, you will need to keep all food in tins or containers in order to keep out of rodent reach, keep all rubbish to a minimum and stay as clean as possible.
  • Domestic pets will have to be kept away from the treatment area for the period of the treatment.
